Combat in the Country Day 3
Lake Erie Elite came into day 3 of the Combat in the Country looking to bring home their first team championship of the spring. They fell short of the feat falling to Spartan BB Club in the finals 52-49. Lake Erie opened up play with their final pool play game winning against Air Attack-Rowlands 52-43. All 10 players scored with David Doster and Nic Williams leading the way with 10 each, this game was highlighted by a thunderous slam dunk by Lake Erie Elite's Cody Thompson. Lake Erie received a bye into the semi-finals because of their 3-0 record in pool play. There Lake Erie Elite met Air Attack-Treen and came away with an impressive victory 61-40. All 10 players once again found the scoring column with Derek Gray leading the way with 19, including 5 3-point field goals in the first half, and Bob Harwood contributing 10.
In the finals, Lake Erie ran into Spartan BB Club who they beat during pool play games. This time however, Spartan's got the best of Lake Erie and prevailed 52-49. David Doster was the high point man in the finals with 15 and Nic Williams added 10.
Despite losing in the finals, this was a very successful weekend for Lake Erie Elite and should prepare them for upcoming tournaments. Nic Williams carried over his successful Buckeye Prep tournament into the Combat in the Country and continued to excell.
